Live Painting Exhibition: Huanglong Cave Scenic Area Debuts Dynamic Art Show to Celebrate Cultural and Natural Heritage Day

On 6 13, Zhangjiajie Huanglong Cave Scenic Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, hosted a public dynamic art exhibition to mark China's Cultural and Natural Heritage Day.
This art exhibition, presented by Huanglong Cave Scenic Area and curated by renowned independent artist and "Minimalist Poet" Li Jin, breaks from traditional gallery formats. Instead of displaying only finished works, it features real-time creation with immediate on-site display, allowing visitors to witness a painting come to life from a blank canvas. This innovative model marks the first of its kind at a scenic attraction in China.
The art exhibition, which officially launched on 5/26, is free to the public throughout its run. The serene Longshe Courtyard, nestled between mountains and water with a harmonious blend of natural landscapes, offers an ideal atmosphere and abundant inspiration for artistic creation. Its innovative format and authentic creative environment have attracted visitors and art enthusiasts from across the region, resulting in steadily increasing foot traffic.
Mr. Ye, an art enthusiast from Changsha, noted that he previously could only view finished artworks in exhibition halls, with no opportunity to witness the creative process behind them. On this day, coinciding with Culture and Natural Heritage Day, he had the privilege of watching artists paint live at a homestay nestled among green mountains, immersing himself in artistic inspiration within an open-air gallery—a far more healing experience than visiting traditional urban museums. A parent visitor mentioned that allowing their child to observe the entire creative process up close turned the outing into a vivid and meaningful outdoor art education session.
Artist Li Jin describes Longshe as a place where visitors can touch folk traditions, savor rural culture, and experience the tranquility of pastoral life. He chose Longshe for this artistic innovation practice to use concrete landscapes of mountains and fields as a foundation, employing the abstract language of oil painting to interpret Zhangjiajie's unique mountain-water aesthetics and poetic rural charm. Through real-time creation and immediate exhibition, he aims to bring high art out of galleries and into everyday life, awakening public awareness of the natural spaces and aesthetic beauty that surround them.
